Description of the course

A graduate of this study will have the following knowledge:

• mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, economics, entrepreneurship and a foreign language which is the basis of major subjects,

• electronic components and construction of electronic devices, analog and digital electronic circuits, microprocessors and homogeneous microcontrollers, signal transmission techniques in cable, fiber optic and radio links, computer network protocols and devices,

• programming in languages: assembler, C, C++, Java, Python, analysis of signals in the Matlab environment, computer systems and networks, databases and operating systems, necessary for the installation, operation and maintenance of IT tools for information processing, including simulation and designing ICT networks of various scope (local, aggregation and wide-area),

• principles of their organization and administration, communication protocols used in them, addressing principles, route selection mechanisms, traffic engineering mechanisms, mechanisms for creating virtual networks, cloud computing, devices included in ICT networks, including wireless and optical networks, and commissioning, configuration and maintenance of these devices.

The graduate can:

• design simple electronic systems based on specialized analog and digital integrated circuits, processors and programmable circuits for applications,

• design simple circuits and network systems designed for various transmission channels and types of transmitted data,

• use measurement tools (signal and arbitrary generators, oscilloscopes, protocol testers, spectrum and vector analyzers, high-resolution multimeters, computer measurement cards) and software in the process of building ICT networks,

• is able to simulate and measure traffic characteristics, as well as extract the basic parameters characterizing the elements that make up telecommunications networks,

• configure devices and communication protocols in local (wired and radio) and wide area (in particular optical) ICT networks,

• administer ICT networks and systems and solve problems that arise in them,

• implement algorithms and build services for computer and telecommunications networks,

• configure devices and select protocols for the implementation of ICT services in computer networks,

• run the project with planned and agile methods.

Internships:

Apprenticeships last 4 weeks during the summer break after the 6th semester of full-time undergraduate studies. The scope of practice includes i.a. getting to know the methodologies of designing electronic devices and integrated circuits, servicing devices: automation, computer networks, multimedia and learning work organization procedures.

The most important companies with which the department cooperates include: Microsoft, Motorola Solutions, Fideltronik, COMARCH, Ericpol Telecom, Capgemini Polska, Software Mind, Bank Pekao SA, IBM Kraków Lab., ELSTA ELEKTRONIKA, CISCO Polska, Kraków branch of Energy Micro AS, QUMAK, Orange Polska, Akamai, Nokia Solutions and Networks, Telekomunikacja Polska, Semihalf, Parasoft, EC System, AV System, Metronic AKP.

Career Prospects:

Graduates of the course can work as:

• designers and constructors of electronic devices and integrated circuits, integrators of data transmission systems,

• production line supervision engineers, service engineers for industrial, multimedia and medical equipment as well as vehicle on-board systems and security systems,

• specialists in the field of taking measurements, project managers.

Possible workplaces:

Enterprises involved in the design, production and operation of electronic devices, industrial automation, intelligent buildings, security systems, design offices, research laboratories and scientific units, government and local government administration units, own business activity in the field of design, construction, operation and service of electronic devices. Electronics also gives a good, inserting job, according to research by the AGH Career Center, 98% of graduates find a job within 3 months after graduation, half of students start professional internships already during the last semester of study, after completing apprenticeships, 86% declare that the acquired qualifications are consistent with the performed Work.

Through the candidate’s eye

Would you like to enter the Western labor market immediately after graduation? Studying Electronics and telecommunications gives you such an opportunity. You will receive knowledge and practical skills, e.g. in the field of constructing devices, integrated circuits, construct devices.
