Course
description

The basic objectives of education in the second-level studies in the field of Mining Engineering include the transfer of specialist knowledge and skills in the field of mining for the development and extraction of various deposits of mineral raw materials and their processing. To achieve these goals, the program of studies contains issues related to underground, borehole, opencast mining methods as well as to modern techniques and technologies of processing raw materials.

Graduates can find employment in Polish and foreign mining companies, companies involved in the construction of underground engineering structures, including tunnels, companies providing services for mining needs, design offices, mine rescue stations, geological and geotechnical construction companies, mining supervision authorities, companies providing services for mining needs, superior structures of mines, offices designing raw material processing plants, technological systems or devices.

During the four semesters, students acquire extensive knowledge in the field of Mining Engineering through lectures, auditorium, project and laboratory classes, as well as numerous technological trips to mining plants and companies, as well as research institutes. The graduate is able to make balanced decisions in the implementation of engineering, organizational and managerial tasks, prepare synthetic substantive reports and simple scientific studies, prepare important elements of mining documentation, classify, evaluate and independently select the optimal method of accessing, cutting and exploiting solid mineral deposits, taking into account natural and technical hazards, together with auxiliary processes. Graduates are also prepared to continue their education at the third level of studies (doctoral).

Requirements

Mining Engineering is a technical field, therefore the candidates for the major should have mainly mathematical and technical aptitude. Due to the very wide range of technical (engineering) issues, as well as other such as economic and legal issues, it is necessary to be able to think and formulate conclusions. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to expand his knowledge of basic subjects for this field of study (mathematics, physics and information technologies) at a higher level. Good health is also necessary as well as some organizational skills.

Successfully complete entrance examination or entrance examination for foreigners who apply for admission on the basis of the AGH UST Rector’s decision. The examination includes questions verifying basic knowledge in the area of the raw materials exploitation and associated processes.

Professional career path

The program aims to equip students with up-to-date, specialized practical knowledge in the exploitation of mineral deposits, both open-pit and underground. Furthermore, the Master’s degree in Mining Engineering fosters creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, preparing graduates to make balanced decisions in the implementation of engineering, organizational, and managerial tasks, and to prepare synthetic technical reports and scientific studies. Thanks to the program, students will become technical experts in preparing mining documentation, classifying and evaluating the optimal method for accessing, cutting, and mining solid mineral deposits, taking into account natural and technical hazards, along with ancillary processes.

Important

All four semesters will be held at AGH University of Krakow, POLAND. Admission requires a bachelor’s degree in geology, mining engineering, mineral processing, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, or a related field.
