Course description

Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) is a Master’s programme taught in English, dedicated to topics related to the energy transition, renewable energy sources, and modern sustainable development technologies. The programme combines technical knowledge with elements of management, energy economics, and climate policy, preparing specialists capable of working in international academic and industrial environments.
The programme is the result of long-term cooperation between AGH University of Krakow and European universities within the framework of the EIT InnoEnergy Master’s School – MSc Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) – and represents the only educational pathway in Poland offered under this prestigious initiative.

What will you learn?
During your studies, you will gain knowledge in:
• renewable energy sources (RES), hydrogen energy, and energy storage technologies,
• integration of RES with power systems and distributed energy networks,
• modelling, analysis, and optimisation of energy systems,
• energy economics and policy, principles of decarbonisation and sustainable development,
• modern project management methods and working in an international environment.

The programme includes courses conducted in the Challenge-Based Education format, focused on solving real industrial problems in cooperation with companies from the energy sector.

What will you be able to do?
Upon graduation, you will be prepared to:
• design and implement solutions supporting the energy transition,
• analyse and assess the efficiency of energy processes and their environmental impact,
• plan and execute projects related to decarbonisation, sector coupling, and energy efficiency,
• model energy systems using advanced digital tools,
• work in international project, research, and consulting teams.

Career opportunities
Graduates find employment in:
• energy sector companies (generation, distribution, RES, hydrogen, energy storage),
• engineering, consulting, and technology firms,
• public administration and international organisations (e.g., energy and climate agencies),
• research and development centres, universities, and scientific institutes,
• startups and companies implementing innovations in energy efficiency and CO₂ emission reduction.

Why is this programme unique?
• It is based on the international EIT InnoEnergy MSc SELECT programme – one of the highest-rated in Europe in the field of energy.
• It integrates engineering with aspects of management, energy policy, and sustainable development.
• It is built on close cooperation with industry – students carry out projects for companies such as Shell, TAURON, E.ON, and EDF.
• Courses are taught in English by experienced academic staff and international experts.
• The programme emphasises international mobility, practical skills, and career development in the dynamically evolving energy sector.
